GEDANKENARCHIV is an animation set inside of my IP Magidelik which focuses on a world of wizards that is stuck in endless paperwork and bureaucracy. Within this world I try to deal with topics like mental health, critique on our everydays life and my past.

Inside my mind, there's an archive built,
Where memories of past, present, and future tilt.
A storehouse of thoughts, both good and bad,
That shape my daily thinking, happy or sad.

The walls are high, and the doors are locked,
A hasty effort to keep painful times docked.
A place to hide away memories I'd rather not see,
A sanctuary of sorts, where my mind can be free.

But through the gaps and holes, the struggles seep,
The waves of pain and hurt begin to creep,
They try to hold my mind in their tight grip,
And through the archives, they start to slip.

I try to push them back, to keep them at bay,
But they persist, and they won't go away,
The memories I thought were safely locked,
Are breaking free, and I'm being shocked.

The positive and negative, both intertwined,
A battle of emotions, within my mind,
The archive was built in a haste,
And now the struggles I must face.

But I know I'll get through it, I'll find a way,
To keep the struggles at bay, day by day,
I'll heal the gaps and mend the holes,
And keep my mind, my heart, and my soul.

Initial idea sketch // Usually all my bigger animations are growing and changing during the process of the creation. Nonetheless I keep track of the main idea in the beginning with a initial sketch that should narrow down the main components of the story.

Base Scene Mockup // I like to quickly make mockups with the planned camera movement to get a feel for scale and look right away. This helps to go back to the sketch and check if everything works as imagined.

Character Kitbash // Since I am not a proficient in sculpting characters, I went for a kitbash approach. Using various purchased models and selfmade assets I recreated some of the characters from previous illustrations.

Textures and 2D Assets // To stay true to my 2D style I like to handpaint all the textures and assets by hand. All the UVs are painted in Procreated which is messy but helps keep the style in line.

Color Keys // During the process I like to get several shots from outside the main camera movemet to check back if the color and details are all in line with the main idea. Learning a lot from Wes Anderson movies I kept the colors monochromatic.

Handpainted Glitch // To translate my 2D style further into the fully 3D scene, I like to extract keyframes and overpaint them completly in a messy, glitch like look. This should keep the viewer on their feet and pull them out of the loop.
